Great going Andi, wish I could say mine was going up! Scores are off, but my overall average is going down, so that can't be a good thing.

Hello Everyone,
This is my advice to everyone. I'm facing the same problem that magenmarie is facing. To me, there's nothing wrong with my entry. There are parts in the photo which I did it on purpose because I like it.
Here are a few of my thoughts:
1. Look, think and take time to vote. When anyone of you vote, please look at the photos first and think. If you're going to give low score, please do not vote yet. Look at the photo again the next day. If you really feel that it deserves a low score, then do it. If you feel that it's not that bad actually, then give higher score.
2. Everyone has different photography style. Please do not vote based on what photography style you like. All photographers have their own style and uniqueness. When you judge and give score based on your style of photography, even a great photo by anyone of us would get low score should our entry not fit your photography style.
3. Ask question. If you do not like certain parts of the photo, please try not to give a low score yet. Ask question. Give comment. This really gives the photographer the chance to write back and explain his/her intention in the photo. What he/she has to say could change your mind.
It's not the score. It's true. It's not the score. When I get really low votes/score, it makes me think and look at my photo again. Is it really that bad? It's NOT the score that comes to my mind. It's the photo. It makes me want to hide the photo and not show it to my family and friends fearing that I would get the same criticism.
Just my thought.

I must be getting lots of 1's, 2s and 3's!!! Is it really THAT bad???
I try to keep telling myself that at least I like my own image, but talk about kicking my dog while he's down! It's even harder when I get comments telling me about the parts of the image that people don't like - and these are the things I PURPOSELY did because I LIKE them that way. *sigh*

With a 3.3 voting average do you really think you are the right person to be telling people how to vote and not vote low!?

Hello Mark-A,
I'm truly sorry if you are offended by my post. I'm not telling people how to vote, and I'm certainly not the right person to do it here. I'm only suggesting. It's not an instruction or a rule. I said, "Here are a few of my thoughts". I did not say "Here are a few of the voting rules", and I did not say "Here are how you should vote". It's just my thought.

so what is your point then? that everyone should be voting lower?
I don't understand.
My average vote is 6.1 for this challenge. I have left 221 comments. About half of those are 2 lines long or less. A good number of those are quite a bit longer and a very significant number have seen upwards of 10 minutes spent on a single pic.

I was surprised at myself for dishing out a small handful of sub 3 votes and genuinely felt bad for them even with an average of 6.1. What's your conscience saying to you? |

Hello ShutterHack,
For your information, I do not vote in the challenge that I enter and I always ask the photographer for feedback whenever I feel like giving low score. I've testimonials to prove. Just ask and I shall provide them. Thank you.

So are you saying that because you didn't enter anything in the 'hidden gems' that your publicly viewable voting history is not relevant?

I am in agreement with shutterhack, you moan about how people vote but an average vote cast of 3.3 (its in your stats) is pretty appalling.. You must be dishing out 1s and 2s with wild abandon. |

Hello Simms,
I did NOT vote in the challenge! It's NOT my stat that you read, saw, and quoted! Find the original post. Follow the thread and see where I came in!
I shared my thought with good intention since many people are getting low scores and this is what I got. To make matter worse, I'm being accused of voting or giving low score in a challenge that I do not vote. To make matter extra worse, the stats displayed here are misquoted as my stats!

FYI - apples and basketballs - the first is his vote received, not anything he has cast; the second is his voting history. No relationship between the two over a 24 hour period. |

Ang, Dude! Once again you should stick to what you preach. This is actualy sort of entertaining. I give ou credit for trying to give sound advice on how to vote. But as far as your voting practices "your Busted!" click on your profile and have a little looksie at the top left portion and read your stats. They are there for everyone to see. your avg vote you have casted is 3.3. That is appaling to the point it seems you do vote in your own challenges as a possible troll!
Give it up, move on to another topic and hopefully you will take your own advice and vote appropriately.

First of all, it would be wrong and quite possibly against the rules to ask the photog a question and wait for an answer and allow that answer to sway your score.
Second of all, even though there are different photography styles, I am sure most people here have the ability to know if it is just the style they do not care for (and vote knowing that it is a good technical photo but not their cup of tea, which will understandably knock it down a bit) or if it is just not a good photo.
Third, as has already been pointed out, you give an avg vote of just over 3, which is insane, so who are you to be telling others how to vote? |

gee thanks Ang. Now at least I know why my photo has dropped in score in the last while, it is the folks who are just like you but ARE voting on this challenge.
If you honestly believe that the photos on this site are only worth an avg of 3.32 out of a possible 10 then what the heck are you doing wasting your valuable time and talent with us hacks? I do not understand. |

I do like when people point out the average vote given. Regardless of the countless threads questioning low scores, I still try to figure out why I got a 1, 2 or 3. It completely boggles my mind that people can think the photography here rates an average of 3.32.
I wish we could sort photographers by average vote given. If there's a lot of this type of voter, the low scores would be more understandable. |

i remember a long time ago some started a thread because someone gave her photo low photo. While (at that time) she herself had her voting average as 3.X.
i am not pointing out that user but she really made me think. |
