His work..although better, reminds me of scott mutters, He is why I got into photography in the first place. Why as a child I spent more of my time in my darkroom than actually outside being a kid. Honestly though that darkroom saved me from ever doing drugs or any number of rebellious things other teens did. I simply didn't have time for it. I had composities going in my head all day at school and couldn't wait to race home and try to produce them. Granted, I sucked! but I loved it. I miss my darkroom immensely. and I'm sooo glad my parents went out of thier way to allow me the blessing of having one. We lived in a rental in the ghetto. Kids at school looked at me like I was some strange anomaly for living in that infamous part of town. literally prostitues on the corner of my street and drunk guys would follow me home from the bus stop. One time there was a helicopter outside and I realized it was looking for someone as some guy who had just done who knows what was pounding on my bedroom window trying to get me to let him in. (I turned off the light and hid under the bed instead). But when I walked inside, I had that one special room all to me. filled with cheap, old, used equiptment. but I couldn't have loved it more. It was mine and mine alone, and even though my decades old enlarger was finiky and never produced the same amount of light twice, it was my prized possesion. I produced alot of "kurt cobains face in the clouds" images back then..lol. but in the back of my mind I was always working towards the goal of doing work like this. And now I don't do anything like it. Somewhere along lifes path, I lost the dream. I guess doing it digitally just doesn't have the same draw for me. but this work is VERY inspiring and I thank you tremendously for posting it.
Wonderful. |

It probably did. Always good therapy to have your own little hobby that helps you get (and stay) away.

It's a lot easier = a lot less frustrating = a lot less rewarding when you finally "get it right." Also, this kind of stuff is done much more now; where before it was a niche thing where only the inspired ones did it, now it's a "are you good enough to do it" thing, and everyone's trying to do it. |
