I'm sorry that I'll be missing the GTG this year. Just in case anyone is on the bubble about joining this GTG, you can just look at the cast of characters and realize what a good time it will be. I may try to get up there for the day Saturday and find a couple of you to muck around with :)

I'll be at the luxurious Rickett's Glen Hotel if you're interested in getting a room there. It's cheap, and clean :)

And the TV doesn't pick up any channels, and most rooms have to share a bathroom, and the clock ticks at just the right volume to create the "Chinese Ticking Clock Torture." But it's supposed to be rustic and wild :)

You don't need tv...just look outside!

It really wasn't bad and the bar is right down the hall!

Looking forward to this.....will be bringing cups & plates....

I dunno if I mentioned that I'll be bringing a pasta salad or not, but for those of you who are like me and have mayonnaise terror, it'll NOT be a mayo-based foodstuff!

Nothing scares me more than that amber, crusty salmonella stripe at the top of the bowl at a picnic!

LOL!!!

Just reading back through and found this post...

I was in Philadelphia at the Eastern State GTG, and took off with Nikolai afterwards to wander around downtown. At one point, I was talking with him about our cameras; he was showing me the various benefits of using the exposure control, and discussing settings. I was using mine full manual most of the time and f*cking up shots due to the whole thing of the typical point-&-shoot aspect of being out and about. He suggested I try using Aperture Priority and letting the camera do the work of selecting a good shutter speed, coupled with my selecting whatever exposure compensation I liked.

When I asked him why I should do it that way instead of painstakingly going through the manual settings, he looked at me like I was from another planet and said, "Well.....you paid good money for the processor in that camera, why not learn how to work with it?".

Duh, Jeb!

Who'd a thunk it???? LOL!!!

Anyhow, that's just another of the little obvious things that never seem to occur to me all by myself, yet seem so painfully simple when someone points 'em out to me.

Gotta love the people at DPC!

Hmmm, wonder what the mystery ingredient is going to be?

Miracle Whip? Fluff?

Inquiring minds want to know.

That's a myth. The warm-mayonnaise proscription goes back to when mayo was home made, from raw eggs, and salmonella potential was very high. Commercial mayos these days are totally from pasteurized ingredients, and the danger does not exist. That said, no self-respecting "pasta salad" use mayo anyway, but rather some sort of olive oil based vinaigrette...

So sayeth the Bear!

I got the hotel booked at Wilkes-Barre. Probably won't be getting there until later in the day of the 20th. I'm hoping to go to Mermaid parade in the morning. I will also have few people coming with me. Model deal is being worked on and friend of mine (who is coming too) found a HOT one. I'll post more details in the next few days.

Is there any particular type of food we are short on?

Okay....whatever......8>)

I'm something of a pasta salad legend 'round these parts and I use mayo in at least half of my concoctions.

I have at least six different regular recipes, and they're all quite different.

I'm bringing one of my newest recipes......and I use mustard in it.

And I don't much like mustard!

We need some lo cal foods. We don't want the models getting fat and bloated.

I have updated the original post to reflect that Nikolai1024 is bringing a HOT model... not just merely "a model." Woo hoo!

Can anyone possibly step up to offer to bring burgers? I'd bring them, but I'm not confident that I can keep them properly frozen for a 4 1/2 hour drive, etc. And considering I wound up with food poisoning after eating a couple burgers last night, I really don't even want to think about any sort of meat product at the moment...

With all this talk of food poisoning maybe we should add tums and immodium to the bring list
06/12/2009 06:17:54 PM · #123
I would but like you, I'm 4 1/2 hours away too.

Where does the model fit in the food pyramid? I'm not entirely clear what food group she would be in. I am also assuming that a HOT model means grilled.

Can I get an idea of who will be in the area Saturday that might want to go for a shoot somewhere? There was something to do with trains mentioned earlier in the thread. Any other ideas for Sat? I can come up almost anytime on Sat and I have a place to stay overnight but I must leave early enough to get to the Phillies game at 1pm Sunday. Plus my knees are BEGGING me to not take the hike up or down that hill :) hehe
