Anyone know why my camera shoots slower when I go from JPEG to RAW? I should probably know that, but I don't... My memory card to slow?
I have a D300 and, if possible, I want to shoot 6fps in RAW.

| Just a guess, but I assume it's because the files are significantly larger and there's more to write. If I'm doing a short burst, I don't notice a difference, but with the longer bursts, it definitely needs some time before it can catch up. |

What Wendy said.
On my camera shooting in RAW saves 2 files, the processed JPEG and the RAW file. I imagine this would add to the write time. |

| I can shoot about 5 Raws in burst before it slows down. Jpg's I can do around a dozen before any delay sets in. |

| a faster memory card will help clear the camera buffer quicker and therefore allow you more shots in burst mode before it slows down |

| I would look in your camera manual. There is probably a section that lists the speeds and shots/burst that you can achieve in each format. I know there is a secion in my 50D manual. |

| Thanks for all the answers! When I looked around in the camera I noticed that I was shooting in 14-bit... I'm shooting fast again now. Thanks again! |
