I can't shoot using the manual setting on my Canon 40D because
the the exposure comp. setting is dialed all the way up and seems stuck.
Lovely high key shots all the time now, not.
Anyone else have this happen?

| I think your manual setting are just are set for an overexposed photo and what you are seeing is camera's light meter telling you this. Did you try a really fast shutter speed or comparing your manual settings to say what the aperture reading gives you? I believe exposure compensation is disabled in manual mode. |

| I don't know about Canon, but on my Nikon, I can reset all the settings to factory default. Maybe try to look for that? |

When I look through the view finder the exposure compensation arrow is flashing,
you might be right about the settings. I'll go check again.
Checking is good. |

| I don't think that the exposure compensation works on full Manuel, you control Aperture and Shutter. As JD stated, i think you are seeing the meter and thinking that it's the compensation. |

Aha! You are right!
I haven't used my camera for a while, and seem to have forgotten everything.
Even common sense.
But sometimes you just expect it to be broken, like everything else...
Thank you kindly!

| No problem, and you got some high key images out of it. ;-) |

| If you don't move the on switch to really on, the same thing can occur.... You can set it high and then cannot move it when in the middle position... Just sayin... |

Thanks, I saw that in the manual, and wondered about it a bit...
checked I had the on switch turned all the way, that's when I began to panic,
like how much more "on" can I get it?
I'm just having a s- l- o- w day. |
