It looks like we will be going to Ireland at the end of May. We were there several years ago but always wanted to go back. We plan on flying into Dublin and spending a few days there. We then plan on driving over to the Dingle and Beara peninsula.
We've been to the Dingle Peninsula but not the Beara Peninsula.
We then want to visit the Donegal area for a few days and then on to Northern Ireland.
All this in only two weeks.
Has anyone been to the Beara Peninsula before?
Has anyone been to the Donegal area?
How about Northern Ireland? Is there a lot to see in Derry/Londonderry and Belfast?
All comments are welcome.

IMO Belfast is not to be missed. Many people will discourage you from there, but if you like old world cities you will like Belfast more than Dublin. The Crown pub in Belfast is a definite place for a pint, and you'll want to spend an afternoon walking along the peace wall photographing the murals. The city centre is great for shopping.
From Belfast you'll want to head out to Giant's causeway on the sea, Carrick-a-rede rope bridge, Bushmills, and there is so much more.
I didn't get to Donegal on my last visit but I hear it's spectacular.
Enjoy |

I really do want to see Belfast. I know all the bad stories but I still want to see it anyway. I love the thought of old-world cities.
Are you going to be able to make it Deb? |

You know, I may seriously give that a try. I need to check my schedule at work but I think it should be do-able for at least part of the time you're there. I do want to see Ireland. And France. And England again. Possibly Spain. Some more of Germany.... :-) |

Bob, I am so jealous right now. I have always dreamed of going to Ireland. The problem is money - as always. I hope your trip is everything you hope for it to be. I look forward to seeing your photos. Maybe you could send me a postcard? |

My neighbour is from Belfast, there are no bad stories anymore in Belfast. Just friendly Irish hospitality. Enjoy your visit and kiss the Blarney Stone:)) |

Quite a feat to piss on it, atop a castle and a contortionist's pose. Who cares really:)) If you are daft enough to hang halfway out of a castle to kiss a lump of stone, you obviously can't taste pee!! But, Ireland is a seriously beautiful country, with real characters. The scenery is stunning, but don't be tricked by the locals. |

I had the opportunity to kiss the Blarney Stone 3 years ago when I was in Ireland & didn't do it. Up untill I read that post a few minutes ago, I always regretted not doing it. Thanks I feel much better about not doing it now.

My wife Schnitz said she doesn't want me to kiss the blarney stone because I'm already full of enough blarney. When we were in Ireland 3 years ago, we were in Blarney but we didn't visit the castle. We thought that was a little too touristy. However, we were in a pub there and during the sing-along, the singer told everyone to sing except me. I was so disappointed that I had to drown my sorrows in another pint.

Be sure to check out the northern coastline. Lots of coastal cliffs. The Giant's Causeway is there, and some castle you get to by climbing across a rope bridge (the name escapes me right now). The Mourn Mountains just south of Belfast - the border between the north and south are also very nice.
Enjoy the holiday, and pray for it to stop raining - it never seems to!
And don't fear Belfast - like any city there are bad areas, but keep your wits about you and you'll have no trouble.

We bought our tickets today. I'm getting excited. We are flying into Shannon and returning from Dublin. Right now the airlines have some great fares. I couldn't belive the prices. |

bmartuch, if I may ask how much it runs to go there? For some reason my daughter is totally in love with Ireland (I can understand part of it cause I've always wanted to go and think it is just beautiful, but she is totally over the top over it, we sometimes wonder if she doesn't think she is actually Irish lol), we were planning on trying to go for her graduation this May but really have no idea where to start with planning or purchasing (we're probably way too late to get good deals now but maybe can plan for later in the year). Is it better to go on your own or find a package deal?
Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post here. Thanks in advance.
