"Without People" means without people. Should I vote, I would dnmc any entry with people in it. Probably won't vote, but I promise to mightily appreciate something like |

Not sure about that, although I agree. What about the challenge "Topless...With No People " |

I have a friend who also does photography. He only does it for himself, what he finds beautiful and lovely and wants to record. For those of us who know him well, and know his work well, seeing his work creates an "Oh, of course!" kind of reaction -- it is so like his personality. He couldn't take any other kind of photograph. I think he could enter any of his photographs into this challenge and have it be true. (Not that it would do so well...)
If I decide to submit for this one, that's the kind of photograph I'll enter -- one that is completely and entirely me, "How could I take any other picture?", etc.
Voting, though, would be particularly hard (if I was one of those who voted). |

I didn't submit a photo in the single tree II challenge recently because I couldn't find a single tree without another tree in the picture. Many of the entries had trees in the background as well as within the main subject area...some with high grades. Single Tree II

Hahaha! I was about to post that up with the plaintive message "At last I come into my own!" but you beat me to it :-)

LOL! I love it! The Bear Music Challenge! How can I ever top the firestorm that image spawned, though? ;-)

I remember that SP challenge, and this is the ONLY entry that I can now recall from it. I think I entered it myself, and I can't even remember my own. You are the Thorn! |

I can already see many images with a shadow of the person performing some kind of action that defines him/her |

Same confusing disconnect between title and description in that challenge, however, my entry was not heavily punished despite the appearance of a person in the composition. It don't think I will take the risk this time around (if I shoot for this challenge) |

In the Topless...With no People, it says in the description that people are allowed they just can't be the subject. |

Except for the "no people" part |

Yes except that in the current challenge you are not allowed to show a person or even a part of a person in the image. |

So I've shot for this challenge and I also have another shot that was not taken for the challenge that I think will also work. Problem is, I think both of my shots are a bit abstract (not as in abstract patterns, but as in abstract feeling) and voters might not get it. |

Here we go. I can predict it now. There will be the people who hone in on the "without people" part of the title and then there will be people who hone in on the "without including any part of yourself" in the description. There is a disconnect between the title and the description and that's going to lead to trouble.
An example would be a shot of a child doing grown up things (like shaving or something). The title would reflect that you see yourself in your offspring. On one hand it is DNMC because it has "people" in the shot, but on the other hand it does meet the description because it does not "include any part of yourself".
Just calling it now... |

I think I will have a lot of fun commenting on this challenge, trying to interpret the self-portrait aspect. I think the only way I could DNMC an image is if I see someone I recognize. Doubt that will happen! |

I'm having fun voting and commenting, trying to figure out who everyone is, or at the very least your probable sex and maybe age range...and if I mistake you for someone else, esp a really frickin good photog on this site, consider it a HUGE compliment!
And if I have absolutely no idea as to identity, I just comment and vote on the pic.
BTW Just been reading Malcolm Gladwell's book, Blink, and found it very interesting, how you can tell a lot about a person without ever meeting them....Outliers is great, too. I plan to get all his books in paperback.
