Ok. Since this seems to be a topic of choice rather than actual scores, I'll help someone out and start a specific thread for it.

A quick use of the forum search tool also brought these forward:
Viewing / Voting
remove the thumbnails
Voting via thumbnails...
Let's Get Rid of the 20% Voting Rule

And here's a jumpstart on the conversation...

What I was asking for opinions on was the difference between the number of votes being so different. For example, some of us are sitting at the 155 mark while others are well up there in the 180 vote mark at the same point in time. That seems to be saying that voting does seem to be following something along the lines of what Sempermarine was saying, ie: going through thumbnails and opening and voting on what catches their eye in a good or a bad way and voting on those??? I don't really know.

But, I totally agree with you in saying that if you're going to open a thumbnail, why not vote on it since it takes the same amount of time and energy to hit a number as it does to hit either the arrow button to the next shot or, to hit the back button to go back to the thumbnails.

Now, Lonni for instance is sitting at 201 votes and likely more by now, while I'm sitting at 175 votes and Ja-9 at the 173 mark or so. That's a HUGE difference in the number of votes. Why???? That's my question. :)

Another factor that may contribute to lower voting numbers for some images: although it may not be fair to the others, I sometimes skip giving a vote to a DNMC image. Or sometimes, if I feel a challenge is really plagued by many poor photos, I just get tired of handing out low scores, and therefore concentrate on voting for the ones I like. It has nothing to do with thumbnails in these cases.

I don't think that there's any real need or use in discussing this any longer because it appears that the only real answer to my question tends to be that there is "thumbnail/cherry picking" voting going on (I didn't pen these phrases...just using them as they are known in here for the sake of simplicity) and this is the reason why some have 25 or 30 votes more or less. In some cases, it's only 10 or 15 but, the tilted horizon challenge varied by a significant amount.

So, in short...what else can one say as it seems that bringing this to the forefront and discussing it further only seems to fire people up and nothing gets accomplished or changed anyway other than blood pressure going up. :(

That comes with the terrority when blame is tossed around with zero evidence. Don't you think that maybe just maybe we have a minor difference in number of votes received entry to entry because we don't require everyone to vote 100%? I know that isn't sexy enough of a reason and you can't blame anybody for it but it is what it is. Btw, you do know you can skip over photos even while voting 100% randomly, right?
