So, I don't know much about them at all, but I'd like to get an inexpensive webcam that will work with a Mac mini. I want to be able to video chat (over Skype, probably) with my wife and kids while I'm on a trip. My MacBook has a built-in camera.
Any suggestions? I've heard there exist some as cheap as $9 (and USB-type), but I haven't found any in my web searches yet.
Any help would be appreciated; I'm leaving Thursday.

It really depends on what sort of quality you're willing to settle for. Most webcams under $40 are pretty poor quality-wise... but I guess it doesn't really matter for you because it's other people that are gonna have to look at it, lol.
I use this webcam. I purchased it a couple years ago and I have never been disappointed with it (back then it was $100)
HEREis the cheapest one on Newegg.com-- I don't know if there are mac-compatible drivers for it, you'd have to check the manufacturer's website to see if it is supported. |

I have a microsoft lifecam vx6000, 1.3mp and has 3X zoom USB. It cost around 100 bucks supports HD and has a built in mic works quite well with skype and live messenger. No idea if it will work with MAC though. Guessing it wouldn't, But would be worth investigating because it is a nice camera.

| Yeah, I was hoping to spend a lot less than $100. But I would want it to have a microphone, since the Mac mini doesn't have one. |
