Well, I've gone and done it:)

Ordered the Pentax K20D with battery grip and Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro DI lens. I had been toying with the idea of going back to Canon, but decided Pentax perform as well as, in some cases better than Canon or Nikon, so I'm staying there.

Just have to wait a couple of days for delivery:))

Three cheers for you, Steve.

Of course, you know I'm not really that colour, it's just the processing, right?

I know it isn't envy, it's either seasickness or eating too many Brussel Sprouts:))

If price is no concern, then 5D MkII hands down...

Greetings from very soggy Kandahar, Afghanistan. It's pouring! Rained pretty hard last night, too, which can be loud when you're in a building with a sheet metal roof. At least it keeps the dust down. :-)

Wandered over to the MWR tent to see if I could log onto the 'net from there (tried last night - after half an hour I still hadn't got to my sign in screen for Google mail) and I ran into the guy I was trying to read my email to find (Cory). How cool is that?

Hope to get back to Germany and more available internet access late this week. Y'all be good!

If you want to do commercial photography and money is not an issue look at the 5D Mark II. It is a full-frame camera. Your EF lenses will work on the camera; the EF-S lens will not. I'm not sure about the Tamron. You may need a new wide angle lens. Make sure you have a computer with adequate storage space. See Luminous landscape field test

Very cool! LOL! I hope you got to hang out. Keep being careful and remind Cory of the same. Oh, and keep the camera dry!

Well.......let's see if I can continue with my general suckiness. I faltered a little with the FS and Flora......5.7 & 5.4, but I have an entry in Postcard that's bound to suck and my Textures one.......well, who knows?

On another note......have any of you run into the situation where people get all wound up and enthusiastic about your work, gush with praise, tell you that they want this, that, and the other thing, you spend a bunch of time trying to accomodate their specific needs, and then they just sort of bail on you?

I had another "Deal" fall through, and to tell you the truth, I'm about half sick of running my ass ragged trying to accomodate the requests of "Clients" who don't end up coming through on their end.

So far the only thing that's happened for me is that I've sold the occasional piece completely at random. The Gold's before and after thing came through and I got a free membership for myself and my family, but they changed it up enough that I ended up with about half again as much work with no compensation for it.

I'm actually starting to get pretty cynical about any possibility of making money at this. It seems I get a lot of oohs and ahs, but no actual freakin' CASH!!!!!!

I'm pretty much thinking about sending in my sales tax license and figuring that there's no point to my wasting my time for deals that just don't come through.

That sucks Jeb. You know, it's stuff like this that makes me glad I just do this for a hobby. I do an occassional wedding or senior pictures but they are just for friends.

Last weekend, I took a class in lighting at a local photography shop. At the beginning, we had to say a little bit about ourselves and we were asked how long we've been in business. I told them this is just a hobby and out of 20 people in the class, I was the only hobbiest. The instructor figured I would probably be in business soon when I find out how much money you can make. I told him that I've been a hobbiest since the film days when ISO was ASA. I wouldn't change it for anything. I like the fact that photography is on my terms.

Good luck with the business and I hope it gets better for you Jeb. I'll be pulling for you.

I'm with Bob. I only do it now for friends and family (and stock, LOL!). The few times I worked with strangers left a bad taste in my mouth. Yes, they oooh and aaah, they want the product, but getting the actual money out of them is like pulling teeth from a crocodile. Painful! It just wasn't worth it to me. So I only do it on my terms, for who I want, without benefit of money, and I'm much happier for it.

I guess I knew to a certain extent that there are no guarantees, I have just been really surprised at the way people seem to think nothing of jerking me around and wasting my time only to have their interest just plain die.

I don't have to make anything out of this, and I'm not interested in being so much of a hardass that I charge for research time when I'm trying to accomodate the customer, but the completely cavalier way that my time is treated like it's a given just boggles my mind.

I'm certainly gettiong more careful, and a damn sight more cynical about the whole deal, but it's really been disappointing.

I know I could do the whole full court press with the arts & craft show circuit, and really go all out for the marketing end, but trutyhfully, I'm more interested in photography than marketing, so I don't care if I make big bucks.

It'd just be nice if people wouldn't completely waste my time.......8>)

On a lighter note.....I went out for about four hours yeasterday, and I now have SIX different, reasonably cool, entries for Texture! LOL!!!

It's bneen a while since I just took the day and took my camera for a walk just to see where it would take me.

Funniest part? I wasn't going to enter Post Card, but I accidently got one for that! LOL!!!
