Thanks Melethia! That's what I needed to hear.

By the way... I got wrangled into shooting the wedding because the groom is the guitarist in a punk band called Verbal Abuse thats been around for quite a while. I know him from my work on my website and he asked me to do this. They don't know many photographers who actually take it seriously so I was one of the people they approached.

Immediately after the wedding there's going to be a show so I will get my moshpit later.

I'm working on a few ideas for the challenges.

Talk to you all soon.

Chris.

I'm a bit worried.
I've been asked to take the official group photo of the Anchor House Ride for Runaway Bike Ride. This means that I will be photographing the very large group (approximately 215 bikers).
Just as frightening as photographing the group is that I will have to climb a ladder and then click the photo.
Remember this is the klutz who broke her leg standing on flat ground photographing a statue in the DC area.
YIKES.
I'm honored and so scared too.

Deb ... this sounds like the 10-22 to me.

You'll do just fine :D I have an inner ear problem that causes some big balance problems, and I just photographed our swim team from the top of a ladder (~130 swimmers). If I managed to stay you, you can! Yes you can! Yes you can! (oops, sorry, in election mode)

If you can get them to hold still for 30 seconds or so, you could probably also do a "tilt and pan" series with a more "normal" lens and stitch them together into a high-res "panoramic" image, a manual version of what is obtained with the GigaPan system.

Hey Jeanne - yeah, you can use the 10-22, but don't go to the widest end of it - stay toward the 22, or you'll seriously warp people. Then again, they sound like the kind of folks who don't mind being seriously warped, so that could be OK, too. I've seen what Paul recommends as well - take a bunch of shots moving across the group then stitch them together. You might want to try it both ways. When you do a one shot group shot - shoot in rapid fire mode a couple of times. It'll be your best bet of getting everyone with their eyes open even if it means you need to cut and paste a face or two. :-) Have fun and be careful!

This works in your favor - that means he'll probably be the kind of person who yeah, wants a couple of really nice "posed" wedding shots, but will also appreciate good candids from the day as well - and you already know you can do that part just fine!

Well, I'm in for Portrait, but it'll prolly get killed 'cause it's not DPC eye candy.
07/19/2009 10:14:08 AM · #2615

heres one of my ringside shots. more later, but i need to leave to go shoot a hydroplane competition(like the boats, not cars sliding)

good luck Jeb, my entry is like yours. it was a guys senior photo, so definitely not DPC 'eye candy' material. oh well:/

I'm gonna do portrait today. I just don't know yet of who. LOL!

I haven't posted my troubles for a while, so here's the latest in the house of States. My husband broke his ankle in 4 spots. He has trimalleolar fracture + another bone. He needs surgery to fix it. Plates, screws and various other hardware, so we hear. This happened Thursday night, we went to the local ER instead of the "big city" one, mistake. They took the xrays, put a temporary splint on it, gave him a shot of painkiller and referred him to an orthopedic surgeon the next morning. Only problem was, that surgeon didn't take our insurance. So, after spending all day Friday on the phone with places that do take it, the soonest appt. I could get was Tuesday morning, and that's just to see them. The surgery will still have to be scheduled. So then had to drag him to the primary doc for a referral and painkillers to last until Tuesday. And got reprimanded for not going to the "right" hospital, where they would have kept him and done surgery the next morning.

Anyone about who could give me a quick pick on portrait? I have 4 to choose from, though 2 are the same just different edits. They all have at least a minor flaw, but I need to enter because of the latest contest thingy I'm in with Terry Doyle. LOL! Anyone?

I don't know if my comments have been helpful, but I'll take a look! (it'll be about an hour or so before I get to it, though, I have to go beat my son in cribbage!)
