Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post in, but I thought I'd give it a shot since most of you here are all accomplished photographers.
Anyways, at school im taking a B&W photography course. One of my new assignments is to take a picture of an egg, and to make it creative. Our teachers motive was to make a basic object (the egg), into something more interesting.
I'm nearly flat out of ideas... Which is why I came here.
One of my few ideas is to make a sort of eclipse with the egg. Use a long exposure, and flash the egg from different angles to make it sort of look like a half moon, full moon, etc....
I've done a few trial runs, and the main problem is that im not getting any texture from the egg, it just appears to be a white/glowing blob.
How could I achieve this affect?
Thanks, and if anyone else has any ideas of how to make the egg creative they would be welcome.

You may get some ideas from this past challenge:

It sounds like you're overexposing. Compensate by either dialing down the power on the flash, increasing f-stop on the camera, reducing ISO on the camera. Or a workable combo of all or some of these variables. :-)

can you crack the egg, or does it need to be shot whole? |

Thanks Karen, that helps quite a bit.
And Strikeslip, I have my SB-24 at 1/16 power, and my Sigma 105mm macro at f/32... ASA on my film camera is set to 400.

Ooh, film, no chimping allowed, ouch. You could try putting white cloth of different thicknesses between the egg & the flash. Or lower ASA...

Or use your digital to get the lighting correct then shoot with film.

Yeah Tim, I'm already doing that. Its kind of cheating, but whatever...
I could try to diffuse the light from the flash somehow... would a piece of tissue over it work?
