... my last weekly challenge entry (what I submitted to the Feb. Free Study today) until further notice... LOL!!

I have found that I am getting more out of the side challenges and the "upload your newest image" threads and the comments there-in than the mundane run-for-the-trophy-and-thus-shoot-what-pleases-others-even-if-it-doesnt-please-yourself weekly challenges. Plus the lame (for me) themes arent helping any either.. they dont align with the kind of pictures I am getting interested in these days. Well, in all fairness, thanks to the regular challenges, I have found at least what I -dont- like.. I -dont- like taking themed pictures with the perspective of getting high votes. I -dont- like heavy post-processing.

I cant explain how much I have been enjoying being intermittently away from the weekly challenges.. that has given me the freedom I needed to explore "my kind of" photography. I am happier now when I take 5 good pictures in a day and get appreciation and/or real criticism rather than worrying about what to shoot to squeeze a new personal best score out of "mysterious" votes:-).. and I want to continue with that.

Good luck guys, I will still participate in the side challenges (not that it matters to anyone, but just letting it out there)!

P.S. This is not meant to be a Rant post. But if it affects you in that way, please feel welcome to ignore it.

True, but supposedly there is a rumor going around that people who contribute innane forum topics/posts i.e "asshats" are being scrutinzed these days. Only time will tell.

I was merely referring to the recent banter surrounding "asshats". I support a wide variety of forum shenanigainery, this thread included. I realized that my previous comment could be construed to mean that I thought this thread was in some way innane. I don't believe that to be the case, I was just looking to stir up the fun. :)

I don't blame you for getting a little frustrated with the challenges. They do seem to be getting harsher lately. I've had a string of high entries recently, followed by a string of low ones. Perhaps it's just a sign that the 5 keys are no longer stuck. Either that or I was good for a few weeks and now I suck again.

I may need to take a break from challenges as well. I do know I have gone to normally entering one a week, unless I am really inspired or just have something that happens to fit for two or them.

No problem with inanity... However I do regret some of my more recent challenge entries, but I justify them as exercises of some sort. Possibly inane. Side challenges are a great way to get lift off.
