Hi All,

I have a canon 17-85 and I have just noticed 3 specs of dust on the inside if the lens!

Anyone else had this or know how to remove it?

Cheers

Tony

I had the same thing with one of my lenses after sending it to the distributors for repair. It was quite a large fibre (about 3mm long), but I was too busy to send it back at the time. So I put it on the shelf and ignored it for a while. The next time I picked it up, the fibre had gone.....I have no idea if these things simply move away, but it might be worth giving it a little shake, or turning your back on it and ignoring it for a few days :-)
That was probably not particularly helpful, sorry.

When I first got my 85mm f1.2 (used) I was far too excited to notice the few specs of dust at the mount end (inside) I was cleaning my kit one day and saw the dust in there, it near broke my heart.. Although the dust does not show up on photos it was still THERE and was annoying me. I was gonna send it off to Canon CPS to have it serviced but I also did not want to part with it. There are 4 small black screws on the back end of the lens (do this at your own risk totally as I did) I carefully unscrewed them and very gently lifted the back of the lens off (theres a ribbon wire there so be very careful) there was enough room for me to use my blower, holding the lens and the back part as firmly as I could I turned it upside down and gave it a blow out (3 or 4 sharp blows with a big blower, I used an air blower not compressed air can) I was delighted to see that the dust had completely gone and has not come back YET.

that saved 2 weeks away and a few $$s.

Good luck, care caution and some bravery is what you need, or a bit of cash and send it off.
