Would anyone be interested in a get-together to do the tulips and Amsterdam? I'm clueless about the area, so if there's no interest in a get-together, I'd still love to get some info on where to go, where to stay, and what to see. Probably late March, early April?

i bet azrifel or the energy twins or some other peeps will be happy to guide you around or at least point you some direction...have you tried contacting them direcly?

Heh! I'm in a "get out and see things" mood - always nice to have friends along!

Timing may work well for me Deb. It would definitely be something I'd be up for.

it's cool deb, and i'd pretty much like to join you on this one,too (to finaly get to see amsterdam! i'm not so much into tulips though...^^), but am thinking timing might be difficult as university starts in mid march or so...

Amsterdam wouldn't be a problem for me. My work is there, my school is there. Think it would be nice to see some of you alive :)

Lots of museums, a zoo and pubs (and a lot more). Tulips you can find at the Keukenhof, but I must admit, living almost 52 year in the neighborhood , I've never been there. For mills, cheese or wooden shoes you can go to the Zaanse schans.

Well I think it's about time you went to Keukenhof, don't you? :-)

Christoph, we could probably work in a weekend for the Amsterdam part - that way you can skip the tulips. And Sarah - delighted if you could make it! Share a room, maybe?

I had the great experience of being able to go to the Keukenhof back in 1987 when I was stationed in Germany. It is spectacular!!! Im Jealous! I wish I could go back. I try and dig up so old shots.

Never been to Amsterdam, would love to get some classic tulip shots. If it's a weekend I could well be up for it.

Tentatively 3-6 April? How would that work for people? I'm thinking Keukenhof on the 3rd (a Friday) and Amsterdam all day Saturday (woo hoo!) with who knows what on Sunday.

Keukenhof is so touristic and blah standard. Horrible.

Its much nicer to get in a car and go to the real tulip fields. But you are very dependant on good weather and it is hard to predict at this moment when the fields will be ready. Done this many times myself (even worked on them) and guided some people around.

My problem is that I am still busy with the immigration of my wife. 4 april I already have a meeting, after that I can be anywhere for some weeks, depending on for which countries we can get a visa. (for odd reasons Holland might be impossible at that moment). So I cant really help at this moment. :(

But Keukenhof.... Arghhh.

... sounds pretty good to me and my wife, Deb. We might skip tulip Friday too (if we come). We can't stay over two nights at any rate ... We would miss our pusses and vice versa. Wouldn't want to get a carer in for just one or two days. See further details on Team Suck Palace board.

Hey Sander, even if you can't come for the whole time, it would be awesome if you could come for a day or two. And if you can give me an idea of where else to see tulips other than Keukenhof, that would be good, too. Though I *am* a tourist. :-)

Greetmir - I know what you mean about the cats! I am very fortunate - my neighbor loves to take care of my cats, so she'll watch them for me while I'm gone.

I have not yet decided if I shall drive or come by train. The train costs more but it is SO much easier! If I do that, though, I will not have a car to go see the tulips, but if I go to Keukenhof, I can take a train there from Amsterdan, I think.

There's also a huge tulip festival in Ottawa Canada every spring. So if you're ever this way...

I'm still wondering how you did this shot...

The greens and colors where there should be silhouettes are very cool.

I forgot all about this - sorry about that! And no, it didn't happen. I had to go somewhere else this week for work. I still want to go to Amsterdam, though - I'll pick another weekend and will re-post once I figure out when!

We still want to go to Amsterdam too but the tulips are gonna be gone by the time we do. We are committed for this weekend and not sure about the next.

At any rate I will post a bunch of shots from Belgium of tulips and other spring flowers here as soon as I edit them ...

Keep us informed as to your availability, Deb.

Update! I found a really nice price on a really nice hotel (for which I do not have appropriate attire) and will be in Amsterdam from 3-6 May.

Next up - gotta buy plane tickets. I'll try to get in early enough on Sunday that perhaps I can meet up with a few folks!
