Two shots from New Hampshire over Christmas (Lake Winnipasaukee (Sp?)). In colour I completely preferred the first facing into the light, with the drifting snow giving the whole thing a glow, but now I am thinking that the other facing away from the sun might be more interesting. Hmmm. Thoughts?
They were converted using channel mixer - is there any extra treatment I could have given them which would make them more interesting or effective? I would be curious as to what people make of them rather than explain why I like them! :o)
- Facing into the 'sun'
- Facing away...

Incidentally I also personally quite like this one - but the tree halos are killing me...

Using the program that you use to adjust color, try sliding the saturation button all the way down, then move the color sliders to in effect see how the scenes would look if shot with color filters.
The horizons are way out of level in the first two. There is a lot of ghosting/lens flare in the into the sun shot with the pier. When you shoot directly into the sun, try shading the lens with your hand or a deep lens shade that will keep the sun from shining directly on the front of the lens. In some shots, the flare can be an element of the image, however, I feel that it distracts from the lines of that shot.
I am not sure what to say about the trees with halos. Did it come from the camera that way, or is that a processing thing?
Keep shooting.

The lens flare was a bit of a blow - I didn't even notice it until I got the pic onto a full size screen. That kit lens is the only one I don't have a decent hood for. Hey ho - too late to fix it now! |

You almost had it right... Winnipesaukee
I think I know exactly where these shots were taken as I live about twenty miles from it.
I like both shots. It really depends on what you are trying to covey to the viewer. The first has a moody atmospheric look and the second has clearly lit detail. If I had to choose one, it would be the first because of the mood but that might not be what you're trying to convey.
Hope you enjoyed your visit to the lakes region of NH! |
