Took these today when the horses were coming in. Cropped and contrast adjusted only.

I like Flicka the best for several reasons. Deeper, rich colors, and the feeling of movement- not so static. Also I think the composition and focus are good.

Buttercup: unfortunate placement of her mouth over the blue bucket and the strong sunlight on her mane. It's not a bad shot, I just like the first one much better.

You, Pedro and several others have some wonderful horse opportunities. Very nice...I may need to hunt down some mustangs. ;D

Both are great... Justine is right about the blue bucket, and I'd like that one the best if it weren't there. I like the contrast of the bright mane and darker body. It's "unique" when compared to the first one. It may be difficult to clone out the bucket without losing some detail, especially the wiskers of the horse. Give it a try!

I really love the eager expression you've captured on Flicka's face and the contrast between her lovely rich colouring and the more subtle shading of the trees in the background

I'm in the Flicka fan club as well, but I'm not of the opinion that the image doesn't have flaws. For one, it seems the horizon is tilted left. Also, I would like to see you crop out the metal orange fence on the left and also clone out the large tree branch on the ground that meets with Flicka's left leg/shoulder.

I also like your portrait of Buttercup and besides the blue bucket that's been mentioned already I really don't like the background, and would like to see you blur it with an editing program like PS. I like the effect of the backlighting but think you've lost just a bit too much detail in the mane.

It's hard for me not to like pics of horses and you do them well. Flicka I would crop closer all the way around to put more emphasis on the subject of the photo, lose the gate, some of the background at the top, and the strip of green at the very bottom. The blue barrel's placement is unfortunate but it's color helps bring out the blue in the background and the halter. I also would like to see Buttercup's coloring in direct sunlight as is Flicka's. Quite obviously horses that are well taken care of, the sunlight really makes their coats look great. Your text will look better if applied after final resizing and sharpening.

Took some of the suggestions and redid Flicka, I'm not good enough with the cloning tool to take the log out yet, nor the blue bucket but I'll keep working on it.

What do you all think of the new image?

The horses are very well taken care of. I love going out there and working with them, I don't ride them, I'm the "cool auntie" who spoils them, gives them treats, brushes them and never make them work by riding them. I have very few problems with any of them, LOL. I keep telling Gale if I ever ride one of them, just one, just one time my reputation is screwed, LOL.

Text is something else I have to work on :)
