No Leica... I'm a college student.

However I want a flexible, manual camera I can carry with me as a carry-everywhere camera. The D300 is a bit big for many occasions. 35mm offers such greater quality over digital point and shoots, and I want to jump back into film a little bit.

Right now I've heard great things about the Canonet GIII QL17; any others I should look at?

why not getting a 35mm slr body? that way you can use all your fine nikon glass and don't have to invest in a seperate system. the older nikon bodies like f50, f801 and so on go really cheap on ebay and are quite light and compact, compared to your d300 anyways...

Yeah if I wanted another SLR I'd have asked for another SLR... Besides, I know the Nikon system well enough to know what film SLR to get if I wanted one.

No, I want a compact 35mm rangefinder because they're sturdy, they're tiny, and they (mostly) offer fully manual controls.
