I assume this is how i do it, though, i could be wrong.... :-S (**newcomer alert**)

ANYway...just wondering what y'all think...advice, critique, like/dislike....you know, the general thing.

The first is from the San Francisco bay, the second is right down the street here in Stockton.

(and photobucket...erm...much more grainy than the originals)

Thanks!
Danielle

Hi,Danielle and welcome to DPC.

You did okay posting, trying and keep them on the small side for the dial-up people, or post a url and have your shots full size on the web like //www.pbase.com/

#1 looks a bit (fried) to me. Did you have the flash on (?) hard for me to tell. The colors are lovely but I don't think the stump with this composition is attractive. Perhaps if you moved back to include more of the beach it would of given this more appeal.
#2 just looks oof, ?camera shake. I do like the scene, reflection and lights.
I'm wondering if it's the compression what software your using>>? Some one will chime in with a better critique.

Hello and welcome to DPC! :)

Hmmm, Great study subjects first of all. Here is an Idea. Reshoot or in the future, shoot the stump in the early morning with the sun behind you and the stump will have a new feel to it and still get the water in the background. Don't use your flash for this type of outdoor shot. Just use natural light. it will be a lot better. Or even if you want the sunset, I think it's a sunset, or could be a sunrise...in the background as this shot with the stump. Adjust the the film speed and shutter speed, perhaps the f/stop to where you let in more light if you can. Or even shoot earlier with more sun and use a reflector, a sheet will work. Just have to test all areas of shooting. I hope that this helps or even may have confused you more...:))

This second photo is pretty neat ans I see where you are going. However, it's too low-res for me to see it more clearly. I'm sure that this one isn't nearly the same as the oringnal. However, the compostion is is good with that person down there thinking. Perhaps, this is just me, don't have a factory in the background. Perhaps the same idea for this shoot at another location with out the lights in the background. They are a bit distracting from the emotion of the photo. A person alone in thoughts by a lake. I do however, think that the frameing is great and the use of trees as well.

Happy shooting!
