Hey all, I'm looking for a little advice.

I'm designing promotional materials for the launch of an anthology of poetry, fiction, and art for my university, and I've been tasked with designing a poster at 60" x 54". I'd be OK with this if I were designing it in Illustrator only, but I'm going to be including the cover of the book as a fairly large (maybe 60-70 percent of the whole composition) design element, and I've only got the cover photo as a TIFF. The printing dimensions of the photo were 6 x 9 at 300 DPI, and that was a stretch. I worked on the file for the cover and had to size it up to 6 x 9 from about 3 x 4, and after contacting the photographer, she wasn't able to provide a larger resolution file for me to work with.

This is the first time I've had to design something this big for print; prior to this, the largest materials I've designed haven't been any larger than 16 x 20. Now I'm left scratching my head with a few questions: 1.) How can I get this photo resized from 54 sq in. to about 2,000 sq in.? (That looks much more intimidating when I type it out.) 2.) What kind of resolution do I need to print a file this big? This poster is going to be hanging from the banner from the second floor student center rotunda so it won't exactly be subject to extremely close scrutiny, unless rappelling becomes the preferred means of transit from the top floor to the bottom. Will 72 DPI cut it? 100? 150? 3.) If I can't get the cover photo

I definitely can't give out the file to work with, and don't think I'm able to post any work-in-progress pictures until the book officially launches. I'd like to do make it look as sharp as possible, because we usually give the post after the launch, along with a free shirt and copy of the book, to the person whose work we selected for the cover. Any help at all would be deeply appreciated.
