I have been photographing for several local hockey teams over the past few years. We have a visiting team coming to play this weekend from McCall, ID. Their local newspaper has just contacted me and asked me what it would take to hire me to take photos from their point of view. They want 4-5 of my best picks in a size decent for a newspaper. I was asked what my rate is for that. I honestly have no idea. I have mainly just shot for my own web site up until now. I would like to break out in to that market, and also sell to the local paper eventually too. Does anyone have an idea of how much to charge, or the best words to use to put it back and them, and ask what the going rate is? Also, would it be unprofessional to tell them I will hire on for whatever rate we decide, but I will still be taking pictures for myself too, of both teams. And what of the photos that I sell them, is it right/wrong to post those for sell on my web page still? I could really use some ideas from people that go through this scenario on a normal basis.
Thanks,
Scott
