Just digging through some old pics and came across this one. How do you think it would've done, as opposed to the entry I submitted? Which picture do you think is stronger? Which do you like better? These two pictures were taken 3 minutes apart so either could've been entered for the Silhouettes challenge.
Surfer Going Home
or
Grand Finale

I like the first one, of the surfer, but it seems strange, did you artificially darken him? He looks slightly wrong as his surroundings don't appear to be as dark as him. I could be worng though. Probably a 7 from me
As for number 2, the sky is very nice but it isn't particulalry interesting. Sorry. Probably a 5 (meets challenge and is technically OK but nothing striking)

The surfer was not darkened at all and the image you see is almost straight from the camera. Actually raised the levels just a bit to brighten the image.
I suppose the low light and nature of this type of action shot required me to keep the shutter relatively fast and the ambient light and reflection from the water was enough to drown out the detail.

I don't know how it would have faired but I would have given a 6 on the surfer 5 on the trees. The surfer is a more interesting subject. I would try to clean up the noise and use either an even faster or a much slower shutter though. Perhaps an alternate crop giving the surfer more room to move in frame. |

The surfer is great, I would of probably suspect it for being artificialy colored too but now that I know it whasn't would of gave it a 8 or a 9. Great shot, if details were a bit sharper in the rest of it would be a perfect one. |

I like the surfer, you don't see too many like it. The trees is not bad, but I think crop down to concentrate attention on the people on the beach. They are much more interesting than the sunset. There's bunches of sunset photos. |

Thanks for the comments guys. The only modifications I did to the surfer image was adjust the levels slightly to brighten it up. Then a very slight saturation boost so the image wouldn't be a washed out gray after brightening. If I tried to sharpen the image anymore, the grain as noted, would become even harsher.
