I was at someone's house recently and instead of a TV they had some program on their iMac that allowed them to watch really good looking TV over (I assume) the internet connection. But searching on the web to find out more I'm getting no info on how this works... Anyone know?

Yeah, that looks right - which means they still had regular cable service, I guess. Thanks!

Hulu

WWITV

WorldTV

Just three of the hundreds of sites that are a result of a Google search using 'internet tv' as the search criteria. With the proper cables and TV inputs all of these can be watched on a regular TV as well as a computer monitor.

TVPC software free download...

Just out of curiosity, why didn't you/don't you just ask your friend how/what they are using?

Yep, I did that search, looked at all those sites, and determined that they weren't the thing - they're either low-quality streams (wwitv is just a link collection to local broadcasters) or archived shows - we were watching a live football game. And it's not that the internet was showing up on their TV, it's that they were watching live TV on their iMac screen.

I don't really know the people, so I thought I'd be able to figure it out.

They have TV tunners you can buy and add to your computer either by a card slot inside the computer or USB. Both have a cable hookup you can connect your cable to and watch TV through your computer. Maybe that was what they were using. These devices can be bought for around $100.
