Yes, it is considered a courtesy to answer each received comment, although many don't do it. Don't let the pressure get to you, just do what you feel comfortable with. :)

I have no idea about the scrambled thing. I've never noticed it. Report it to the site owners, or in the forums.

Hey Ursula, is it true that posting straight to critique is for paying members only? I tried to post one there without screening and it didn't seem to work.

Could it be that some of the comments are in a different language? :-)

That's what it looks like to me, too, but only when using Google Chrome. All other browsers render it normally.

Think I read the head guy say FF3 is the only browser 100% compatible with the recent changes right now.

Good Lord....you mean, I have to respond to every comment recieved? Yikes!

Ain't gonna happen BUT I will be more considerate. I love the site, so to remain there in good social grace, I'll do my best.

Of the two comments, I received...I responded to both! Even the one from my Mother...;-P

Yup. IE shows the text fine. Chrome not so much :( I thought the ability to see someones reply to a comment was a membership incentive!

He's a good sport, that Steve. I asked the same thing a few pages back. That practice is laborious, but it's a bigger problem for you than for me(!). I think just hitting every few, acknowledging those who elaborate in some way, is enough.

What are we talking about here exactly? You respond by saying thank you on your own picture or you go over to their portfolio and leave a comment on one of their shots?

A lot of the participants reply to each comment(mostly saying thanks) and the reply shows up under the original comment.

Ah, I hadn't quite figured out how to do that and make it show up under the original comment.

Coming up on 24 hours in screening. Usually that amounts to a 50% rejection. :) This time though I may try to resubmit based on critique to see if that flies.

My 1x collection here-Thumbs Up & Thumbs Down

Well, I'm not doing anything halfway (after the first rejection) and am swingin' for the fences. My second submission sat on the "most popular" section for a day, that was fun. The third got rejected without the group's screening. I put it in critique afterwards, and what the pony is doing in the shot is largely misunderstood. Joined, will probably try the crit before screening on the next one.

Of course my DPCO team (still hangin' together without further competition after our bronze) is my primary sounding board! Most of us are trying to get a handle on their milieu. I'm using the words from the FAQ: aesthetics/mood/story as measuring too.

Ubique, I like your POV on this, and congrats on your horse's acceptance!

My first submission was 5 days screening and then accepted, my second was rejected in 24 hrs....!

1. Click on Account Overview
2. To the right of "unread news".....you will see "Comments: received given all
3. Click on "received"
4. On the right side of the "received" comments list, click on "reply"
5. Type reply "Thank you! Do you really think it's better than Ansel Adams?!"
6. Click on "save reply"

Your reply will appear below their original comment on your photo and they will receive your reply in their unread news section to which they can then reply back. If you leave a comment on someone else's photo, then they can reply in the same way and it will show up in your unread news. So, you never have to go any farther than your unread news section to communicate.

Well, 1x has become for me like the pursuit of the Holy Grail...something to be taken seriously and with deep respect, yet ever elusive and full of adventure.

At 16 percent acceptance rate, why then do I feel like I'm in the Monty Python Version?!!!

Holy Grail - Three Questions

::Be sure to wait for the three questions...wanders off to find some swallows::

Don't look now...I'm 2/10 with a shot from the Painted Hills. Too bad it went on overnight because I can only admire it on the front page for a short time. :)

Even better it is in garish Achoo colors!
