I have posted an image for the January challenge. When I view the uploaded image on my calibrated desktop LCD monitor, the color, contrast, etc is very good...a nice looking image IMO. However, when I look at the image on either my personal or business laptop the image is bland and washed out.

I notice the same problem with images posted by others, but seemingly not to the same extent. Can you someone give me guidance of how to process an image that will stand out when it is viewed on a laptop with these characteristics.

Since you already know the benefits of your calibrated monitor. It should be obvious that calibrating the others should bring the photo back to how its viewed on the other monitor. You should not change the way you edit the photos to match uncalibrated monitors, as they are not the same, and when viewed on a calibrated one they will look too saturated, too contrasty and likely too sharp.

I would venture to say that you can't really process for a "catch-all" situation. Laptops in particular are hard to process for. I agree its frustrating to get an image looking the way you like it only to view it some where else and it looks not only different but actually bad. My current entry for the "Best of 2008" challenge is that way. I suppose you can use your calibrated LCD as the baseline and then spot check against other monitors to make sure your image looks "ok" at least. Keep in mind that many folk here use calibrated monitors so that should be your target.

Just my two cents anyways...someone wiser and more knowledgeable may append or correct my statements.

My computer is broken and i'm using a laptop for now...the photos look so much worse than they really are, they look really grainy with this laptop. For this reason i'm not voting until i have my computer fixed.
