I was hoping that someone here could help me out with some rules on a contest that I'm considering entering. The rules are pretty vague. You have to send in an 8x10 print, it can be colour or B&W. It says that the images must not be digitally altered except for cropping, dodging and burning.
Ok here are my questions; if they only accept 8x10 prints how will they know what kind of post processing was done (there might be some cheaters out there!), and if I shoot RAW isn't it necessary to sharpen the image? If so, that breaks the rules doesn't it?
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!!

It sounds like they don't know a lot about postprocessing :) I suspect it would be a lot like basic rules here; if you can do it incamera it's probably okay. Sounds like they're just trying to avoid photos becoming "digital art".

I think it means, "if it looks real it will be OK"; stay away from Tone Mapping, for example, or Lucis Arts; don't do radical color shifts; don't import birds into your sunset; Don't add special filter effects, or motion blur; stuff like that.

Thanks so much for your help!! I had similar thoughts to what you both said, but I've never entered a contest before so I wasn't sure. Thanks again!

Why not ask those running the contest for clarification of the rules.

Well duh! But I don't know who is running the contest. It's a regional contest and the judges haven't even been announced yet. The entry form was sent to me in an e-mail by someone else who doesn't know that information.

Who wrote the rules? Is there an agency involved? Ask them.
