Okay, so one of my goals for 2009 is to work with lighting more. I would have to say it is my weakest point (and sharpness but we won't get into that).
So I have been experimenting around with a workshop lamp and a 100 Watt lightbulb, but have found that it just makes the lighting more harsh.
What do you guys do to diffuse the light, get even lighting, with simple tools? I want to know what kind of lamps you're using, what Watt of bulbs, the kind of bulbs, and any other detail you can think of. My ultimate goal is to light a setup scene a little better (not necessarily portraits, but those too).
I just wanted to bounce some ideas off you as I'm looking to go buy a few more things to aid in this quest. Thanks again!

In the industry that I call a career, and where SAG is F..king things up, I have seen simple black and white print, everyday, news paper used as diffusion.
If your poor, try it.
Or, bounce the light.

SAG=Screen Actors Guild
They are having issues right now.
ETA: To the OP, normally I would tell someone asking about light to go have a look through Louis's portfolio because he always put a lighting setup on his shots. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuut, since he is gone now, I would have to suggest that you peek through lovethelight's port. If you have any questions, you can PM her. She is very nice and has always shared with me any tips/tricks I asked her about.
