Run for it.

Series of shots taken by the photojournalist.

47 shots in 3 minutes, by Nikon.

I'd suggest that the gunman pocket the gun next time after getting out of the car. You can run faster that way. Fag hang out of his mouth didn't seem to slow him down.

I just read that in my newspaper! I guess after robbing 4 banks, he probably felt like he could do just about anything!
eta: I just looked at more of the pictures, he had direct eye contact with the photographer! He was just short of stopping and saying cheese!

Right place, right time for the photog, although I'm not sure how brave I would have been with the gunfire going around. And I find it odd that the name of the town is Normal IL.

I suspect the photogs' car was his goal from the
moment he stopped. He was blocked on his side and that car was already pointed the other way. If the guy had stayed and kept shooting images he would have lost the car, and maybe his life.

Good thing the man he was taking photos of wasn't half-naked... ;)

Am I missing part of the story? I had a great moment of fear when all the very many police people turned and noticed the photographer. Interesting they let lady cop, gun in hand, procede alone with the rapprochement, and just let the downed and handcuffed suspect lie there with no medical attention.

Man... is it really worth getting shot to death to rob a convenience store?

I wonder how he got away with the cops letting him keep the photos.

Reminds me of the Lexar advertisement in most photo mags.

It was a shot from a photographer up in a tree being treed by a bear with a caption of "Keep Shooting!"

a comment from the images:

More than likely, the suspect was a Canon fanboy who couldn't resist the urge to teach Nikon boy a few lessons...those guys can get fiesty.

Normal, Illinois -- that's where I went to college!

Isn't it odd how the photos show the gunman looking directly into the camera several times? Probably would have gotten low votes in a Candid challenge. Seriously, though, did the gunman stop his car because he saw the camera? It's almost as if he wanted to be filmed. Was it the power of the media he sought, or was he looking for a hostage?
