I installed CUPS-PDF 2.4.6.1, did a lot of googling with some other random coding that probably didn't do anything, figuratively swore, googled, swore, complained, googled more precisely, and then went to //localhost:631/ which is basically quite magical...
Click the tab that says "Administration" and then click "Find New Printers"...it'll think for a while and then it should come up with the CUPS-PDF printer. Click on it, click through the next screen, hit "Generic" on the list and continue, hit "Generic Postscript Blah" on the next screen (I think it's the second-last option), and hit "Add Printer"...voila! You now have a virtual printer.
