Better to have a good look at 20% than a quick guess at 100%.

How do you think it's possible to vote on something you can't even see which are in focus and which are not. It's like trying to read a book from two meters distance. Also these photos are not so big, the max is 150kb, you probably have a very slow internet.
I´m not trying to be mean to you, I´m just giving me perspective on this and hoping that the rules will not be changed and allowing people to wote on something they don't see clearly. |

I agree with oskar. People alraedy spend most of a nano second voting on the large sizes. If people could vote on thumbnails we would all be screwed! I doubt this will ever happen bc everything looks good in a smaller size. You cannot discern one thing from the other, especially, as oskar said, focus. Technique is just as important as the content of the pic here.
Instead of changing things here, perhaps you could get a higher internet speed. I dunno what your situation is & I dont want to assume but if that is not possible, perhaps you could go to the library or a cafe to do your voting if you can't upgrade.
I hope this post does not offend you as it was not my intention. I hope you take it in the spirit it was intended!
BTW, welcome!

I sympathise with you on the download time, I had the same problem with my 56k modem, voting would take forever. However, I don't think voting on the thumbnails is a good idea, as others have already pointed out. If at all possible, try to get a high-speed connection. I got that at home a few months ago, which is really fantastic! I'm able to vote on everything now, even the challenges with 300+ pictures, in a reasonable amount of time. (Well, what's reasonable... I spend way too much time here anyway, LOL).

I have high speed Internet and so it only takes a second or two to download each photo. I can see however that with a slow connection viewing the photos could get pretty time consuming. What would be great is if there was a way to get all the photos downloading at one time, this way you could just let the computer download for an hour or two while you do something else. |

Best idea I've heard all week. All that's needed is to have the next photo downloading while you consider and vote on the one you are looking at.
At 53k (the highest "real" rate possible with 56k modems, a 150kb pic takes 23 seconds to download. If you spend 20 seconds on an image, your next photo is almost done downloading.
Since the DPC site controls which one is next, it seems quite possible to implement this, although I'm sure the code would not be trivial.

There have been many a shot that looked great in the thumbnail but when I see the full size it's fuzzy or not nearly as good as the thumbnail.

Just open a second browser window and have one downloading while your vote/comment in the other. After you hit the vote button, switch to the other window and vote there -- just alternate between the windows. |

Now that is a great and simple answare GeneralE.
Another thing about the thumbs is that a good looking thumb could be very bad photo and also a Great photo could look like a dull and boring thumb. |

Don't click on the thumbnail yet. Take a look at the thumbnail and decide how you would score this image:
Now, click the thumbail and decide again.
Same score?

Ditto, excellent example, Terry.
I'd much rather have 10 people voting on my entry having taken time to look at it than 100 people voting on it's thumbnail.
