I can't believe it is intentional on the part of Sandisk, but I am curious as to how many people have had their rebate submission denied. Their internet site said my submission was received, that there were no errors and seemed to indicate that the next step was rebate approval. A week later I receive a card saying my submission was denied because I did not include valid UPC codes or a receipt.
Yes, I have copies of the submission; the UPC codes were taped to the form.
I called and was told the envelope I sent in was empty. They could not explain why the internet site indicated everything was in order. I was passed to a supervisor who, after a heated discussion, agreed to approve my submission. We will see if I ever get the rebate.

As I understand it, SanDisk (and others) contract rebate work those firms you see advertising "work from home" schemes. Which means that rebates get routed to someone's house, where they are supposed to process them. However, goodness only knows what happens to them there; if the parts are really lost, if the "worker" figures it's easier to deny claims than actually process them, or if they simply steal the UPCs and apply for the rebates themselves.

Most people get word that they've been denied and give up without ever pressing in the issue, which is why the "workers" keep scamming the process.

You took the right action, forcing the issue with a supervisor. Anytime you get a reply that rebate parts are missing, that you know you sent, reapplying is a good idea. Which is why you should always make copies of all the parts.

Perhaps what intrigues me the most is why your title refers to this as a "Scam".

If indeed you get satisfaction, then this will hardly have been a scam. Even if it were a scam, one has to ask themselves who perpetrated the said scam... was it Sandisk or some third party.

Having experienced similar rebate problems, I truly can appreciate your frustration, but hesitate to call it a "Scam".

I can understand his choice of words. When you follow the instructions and are told that the UPC you know you included is missing, and thus they won't pay, that sounds like a scam. Even though the management agreed to pay up in the end, the OP had to take time out of his day for something that shouldn't have needed it. And there's nothing to guarantee that he will get his refund at all - only the word of a group that is already suspect.

Frankly, from my own experiences, I agree that most rebate offers are essentially "scams," due to the fact that they are offering a service which they have little intention of following through with unless forced.

If you do a Forum search you'll find at least one other thread on this exact topic (maybe even the same title), and with essentially the same answer -- it is almost certain that the problem lies with the contracted rebate processors and not with SanDisk.

That said, I would follow uo with a note to SanDisk management describing your experience, and suggesting they find another agent for their next rebate program.

Personally, I rarely apply for rebates, but as far as I can remember, I've gotten all of those I have applied for.
