Hey everyone, hope you all had a nice Xmas.. To help me prepare for one of my new years resolutions, that is, not to pirate any software/music etc, I am looking for cheap alternatives to things like music downloads and video on demand etc.. So Spotify looks pretty cool but currently on BETA, so just wondered does anyone have any invites going spare so I can create an account?

My other resolution is to learn another language - not sure which yet, maybe German or French.

Cheers.

Happy Holidays back at ya.

No Spotify account with me.

Just a thought, why the conventional languages? Why not something like Klingon? or Latin? or Lakota? Just a thought.

I'd second the vote for Latin; I studied it for years, and it is just immensely useful, and satisfying too. Why is it useful? Because all the Romance languages have their roots in Latin, and a lot of English is derived from Latin, so it gives you a big head start on vocabulary issues :-)

I'll have to have a look at that, never heard of it before.

I don't know what you consider cheap. I've been buying my music from Amazon as unprotected MP3's. The price is only a few cents less than Itunes, though. Still reasonable to me. 99¢ a song is a lot less than I used to pay for a 45rpm single, and their album prices are usually a $3-5 less than a hardcopy CD is in a discount store. EMusic is a good place that tends to carry a lot of indy releases and some big name music that is no longer on the charts.

If I were to learn another language right now, it would be Japanese that I would find useful.

... and a lot of European languages, too, as far as I know.

UPDATE.

After putting my name on the list I finally got an invite to the beta.. its a great service.. I have had it on a few hours now and only had one, very short advert. Got every song on there I have searched for (with exception of The Beatles of course) and I really put it through its paces with some of the more obscure 80s stuff I used to listen to.. and the interface is great, just like `surfing` you can go from link to link and discover new music etc. Definitely worth checking out.. AND I have two invites left so the first 2 people to PM their email address to me gets them..
