Well, I ran it up to convert a short clip from the Powershot S5, and it does not support the AVI format. Oh well. Still can't complain for free, I suppose. |

But not FROM avi, it seems. Not a recognized file type for input.
I was jsut trying to get a smaller file for transfer to flickr in a reasonable time. I ended up waiting on it to upload and flickr handled it ok. I'll post it in the Christmas thread.

Sorry about reviving this old thread. I just posted this in the Freebie editing software thread and thought I should post it here as well.
Sorry for a slightly off-topic post but I felt my friends at DPC deserved a heads up concerning Giveaway of the Day listed above.
This is not specific against the site but is intended as a reminder to always be careful about what you download and from who.
On Feb 7th 2009 I installed 2Flyer Screensaver Builder Pro from GotD.
I last used this program Feb 25th.
Now 5 months later AVG Free 8.5 reports that all of the program files within that product contain a trojan horse. Fearing a false positive I submitted the file to AVG Tech and their automated system confirmed it is an actual infection. Google was no help in determining if this was legit so I went to the product page on Giveaway of the Day and the last two comments reported trojan detections by two other Antivirus products.
So it would seem that at least one product on GotD was infected with something and it was either just caught 2-5 months later or it was camouflaged until yesterday. So keep your anti-virus programs up to date and use them daily even if you haven't installed anything new!
Sorry if this post is unwelcome in this thread, I just wanted to make sure that anyone who downloaded from that site knew about this. Thank you.

Thanks for the heads up. It has been known for malware infections to occasionally come from sources well known and reputable. It is very possible that neither giveawayoftheday nor the author of the program were aware of the infection. |

Just an update, before I posted here I left a comment on the GotD product page calmly stating the trojan found, the version of my AV software, the files infected, and dates involved.
The comment was marked as awaiting moderator approval. The comment has since been deleted.

PS- I contacted both the developer and GotD earlier. I'll update if I ever receive a reply from either. |

I can't blame them, they don't want to scare people away from their site. However, the real test is how they deal with it and respond to your feedback. Let us know. If they do not take it seriously, I'll remove the site from the freebie software list. |

They left two other posts mentioning it but deleted the third (mine).
Anyway its been two weeks now, no reply from the company nor GotD. I didn't expect a lot but did expect at least an automated or scripted reply saying thanks for your input someone will look at it eventually. Nothing, into a dark sucking hole.
So do as you will, I just wanted to point it out to everyone. :)
