AH... drink will be served after convention hours when we gather for a dinner or something :) Well, not exactly served, but you know what I mean. You will have plenty of time to knock yourself out after hours with other DPCers :)

Oh, no! It's the same week as the North-East DPC Mini-Convention. OK, it's not actually a convention, it's just me.

It's just another time another place. I moved from NJ and almost moved to PA instead of AZ. I don't even mind cold weather and snow although living in AZ few months showed me that this is the probably the best place, weather-wise, I ever been in my life. I probably and most likely would not do convention if I didn't feel good about Phoenix. I love NY too, I was there for a long time but AZ is much different. Like another country.

I hope it won't rain during the convention though :\ 300 sunny days here, we should be ok ;)

If this one happens and goes the way I planned... there is no reason someone not to organize North-East DPC Mini Convention 2010, and so on :)

It has been 6 years since this website started and there are thousands of people here that I think it is time to have such an event (probably a little over due)

Those who are asking, yes we will have passes for visitors and hopefully for some vendors too. Although I don't know what kind of vendors I can find, something local maybe.

the code

If you guys have your own website and would like to share the link and the image, above is the code. It would be great to have more links and more promotion so we would have more people showing up for DPC's first ever convention.

-------------------------------

This convention is paid by me, few friends and some donations. Convention fee (if any) and workshop fees will be posted with other information and forms in April. I started look around for vendors to make things more interesting at our convention. Local AZ business (Photography related) can contact me for more information, although there will be a vendors form also available in April. Food will be prepared by us, no catering company will be hired (my wife is a great chef). From other sources, I will try to get a few M/F models who are going to join with an exchange of his or her picked portfolio prints (Photos will be taken by our attendees and selected prints will be done by me for the models)
Remind you that I am expecting a small size convention to start with. Number of attendees, models and vendors (if any) will be decided later. Although there will be a convention, it'll be in planning stage until end of April.

Personally I would do it and say that for a workshop there is a 10 buck entrance fee, (((((cos how are you going to pay people to come and teach other people things if they dont get paid????))))), that way people can come and go and go out to places as they wish or take a workshop.

If you are only having it for one day then a one person workshop is fine, but what about the other days, what happens then>? are you going to arrange for outings for the photographers, the transportaion and food and insurance etc???

. During the workshop, if there are people that are connected to the convention (i.e family members) then I would offer them something to do , like the zoo or something along those lines, or they will be bored,

you also have to arrange transport for these people to and from the site where the place is held and get insurance in case anyone hurts themselves, set up an information package as to where Motels are, where to eat, where to get medical help, where to rent a car and model releases and models lined up and food lined up and nights out lined up.

I am not sure you are really thinking that deep into a convention, there is a lot of little things that need to be done here Leo. And the only reason I am saying all these things, is cos I have done them and they are lot more work than saying "Hey come to PHX and have a good time"

So just a few little things to ponder on

LOL - that reminds me of a line from the original Rocky movie. I'll dig it up and post it if nobody can guess what I'm talking about.

As for the conference, I agree-- it's a lot of work. I don't think Leo is oblivious to that though. I assume he has more in the planning stage than he has let on at this time. If I knew I could make it, I would offer to help with some things, but too hard to tell what my situation will be for another few months.

Kudos to Leo for taking this on though! He should get like a DPC hat or something for his efforts. ;-)

JulietNN, I have attended countless conventions for business and fun. Here is how it is going to be overall, subject to change.

Convention is 3 days event. first day starts 11 am to 3 pm, second day from 9 am to 3 pm, and last day from 9 am to 1 pm. Following convention, workshop will be done not by me but by Dean Zulich (VH1's The SHOT). It will be 2 days workshop and limited seats available up to 20 people.

Convention probably will have around 100 to 200 people, could be more people but I will decide that after I find the place. I will keep it limited because I don't know how it will work out for the first year.

There might be very small fee for the convention to cover expenses but I am not sure about that yet either. Most expenses will be paid by me, friends and some donations if any. At this point I don't have any vendors in my mind, but I will contact local shops, that also could help me for the expenses.

There are more details but this is an overview. So, it is 5 days event with the workshop. I can recommend some hotels close by. Usually convention organizers responsible from the convention only not from the people. I will try to make things as enjoyable possible so many people would interested in and signup.

During the convention, I could have few of you giving some speeches or comments about photography and/or about DPC. An indoor corner studio also will be there for us to use to and take portrait photos, or model photos. Two stations will be available to upland and show our work.

Time is limited during the day, I will make things as interesting as possible, but after convention hours I believe many of you will go out for dinner or bars... whatever you want to do... Gathering is the key here.

So, we'll talk about it more in AZ GTG in April, and see what else we can come up with and what kind of help we can get. It will be fun. It won't be easy, or cheap, but it will be fun :) There is 10 months of time, we should be (or I should be) come up with some good results.

I want to be on a list to be notified when more details become available ... but apparently don't want to watch this thread due to the bumps. Can you let us know when more information is available? (yah, I know, I sound like a whiner, but I really do look forward to more info)

There will be plenty of information coming in a month or so. The website will have an application form for members and vendors. I hope there will be enough people but convention will have limited seats (Since it is called mini convention). Workshop will have limit of 20 as well.

You don't have to keep watching or bumping this thread. I will do that for you :) you could bookmark the official convention website and check it from time to time. The best time I would say is April, after the AZ GTG (April 11th and 12th). I will meet with some local DPC members to have more ideas and help.

The thing is, I don't hardly get a chance to visit DPC any more (just been too busy) so I would prefer that some kind of notification come to me rather than having to actively watch for information to be posted. So I had put a watch on this thread hoping to be notified as soon as new information became available. But the thread keeps getting bumped and so I keep coming back to read it only to find that no new info is available. (it's sorta like the boy who cried wolf, pretty soon I just won't click the link any more but I really don't want to miss out on the info)

When Becky did the Utah GTG's she would email all interested parties. Sounds like a lot of work. But another alternative would be a website with an RSS feed on it... anyway, just something so that I for sure don't miss out on the info nor get lost in the noise.

I do have a list for GTG (only). Send me a PM, I put you into that list and send you information for both events when available :)

How's that sound :)
