Hi Everyone,
My most recent challenge entry (below), got my highest score yet, and highest placement. I'm over the moon about that. But the biggest surprise for me was the "border controversy". It definitely was a love/hate thing. (I noticed the score going up and down depending on whether a lover or hater voted :-)
When I originally added it, I had mixed feelings about it so I removed it. Only to discover that without the border, it felt like something was missing from the picture. Is this just a matter of personal taste, or is there something more I might learn from you guys.
[yaaaay! Thanks Beetle]
PS - thanks for the votes all the wonderful comments.
PPS - the preview doesn't show the image, so here's the URL, just in case

Just use the second last icon and put the image number (nothing else) into the box:

You answered your own question. Some will like.. some won't. Go with what you like and F the rest. It is about what you see not what others think. If you let the voters get to you it will drag you down. Keep doing what you are doing!

The boarder thing is nothing new, especially an interior boarder. Take a look at some of the comments on this and you will see feelings haven't changed to much, it's just a thread that won't die.
As always take from the comments what you can, learn from them and take that to the next challenge. For me it will be a long time before I do another interior boarder! |

Very nice shot and well deserving. Like your b/w choice. I personally think the border distracts from the subject. But I would not score it low because of it. I am just not a big fan of borders. |

I wish them darn boarders would stop ruining my fun while skiing too. ;}
Oh and as for the OP. I liked that shot while voting too. Very well captured. Not so sure I like the border though but it isn't killing the image at all.

Thank you all so much. Guess I'm parading my newbie insecurities, but you are all right. The image should satisfy me first :-)
Just wondered if there were also technical considerations. And thank you Beetle. I just couldn't figure out how to post the shot. I'll try to fix it now :-) |

A simple black border does not change the picture area, so no one can say anything really good/bad about it. Your border intrudes onto your photo and in my opinion becomes part of the photo. Being part of the photo the voters now have to decide whether they like it or not. I'd take all the comments (good/bad) as an indication they they are spending as much time thinking about the border as they are about your actual photo. Only you can decide whether that is a good thing or not. |
