Caption: An anarchist with a flag attacks a photographer as more rioters in the background smash a free press distribution booth in central Athens on Wednesday, Dec. 10. Journalists and, especially photographers, have been the targets of enraged rioters over the five days of mayhem that have followed the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old youth by a police officer. More rioting took place Wednesday in the Greek capital outside Parliament and adjoining streets.

This kinda hits home for me because I photographed some riots in Thessaloniki a year and a half ago. Thankfully those riots were much calmer. I had actually been forbidden by my professor to go anywhere near the riots, but the riot ended up coming to me and I photographed it. (I would have gotten away with it if it weren't for those pesky TV guys getting me on film and showing it on the evening news my professor happened to be watching, but that's another story.)

I understand some instances why the rioters would see it as their best interest to get rid of the media, but in this case I would have thought that press would have been tolerated for spreading the news and information about their various causes and whatnot. Hmm.
