| I keep meaning to get one of those. For, you know, research purposes... like reviews and stuff... maybe become the new Ken Rockwell, not that he uses such a lens, well I don't know if he does, I imagine he might or might not, but anything is possible I have learned. |

Don't the people you sit next to notice the whacking great hole in the side facing them? Just asking here :-)

One of the advantages of the Canon cameras with the flip-out/rotating LCD is that you can shoot with the camera at your waist, kind of like with the old DLR (dual-lens reflex) cameras with the ground-glass viewfinder in the top.
Your thumb can be on the shutter, as if you're just holding the camera from swinging around; then a quick glance down to check the framing is all it takes ... ;-) |

Yep! That's the #1 thing I miss from my Canon P&S. I've gotten some great candid shots on the subway using that trick. I still take it with me when I want to do candids.
a for the "whacking great hole," (excellent phrase, btw!) my guess is that most people know zip about SLRs and won't know what the're looking at. After all, you won't see yourself in the mirror, you'll see the end of the real lens, but I doubt most people would know what that meant.

| I agree the hole might be a problem and very noticeable so I plan to stuff mine with cotton and then wrap in black tape so no one can see the hole. |

Strangely, I actually have something similar to this... it was my Dad's, he used to use it to (try) to get candids of unsuspecting family members. I made a 58mm adapter for it, so it can be used on some of my current lenses.
It rarely fools anyone, though, LOL. |
