Soooo I have to write this paper for this class and I was like "urgh let's make it photo related, just for fun..." and I'm currently in the middle of an obsession with light. So right now my paper's on how light creates the mood in movies and I was gonna look at the new Pride and Prejudice (with Kiera Knightly) and Ironman which both struck me as being incredibly well lit. I thought it would be interesting to contrast a "girlie" movie and see how it's lit and compare it to a "macho" movie and see how that one's lit.
So, I just wanted to know what y'all think...any insights?? |

If you really want to see masters of lighting, check out some old B&W movies from the 40s and 50s. Some were subtle and some knocked your socks off. |

I think that is a great idea for the subject of a paper ... totally agree that a "macho vs chick flick" would be a neat way to go ...I'm sure you'll learn a LOT about lighting doing your research ... |

It's really interesting, I've decided to just watch the character of Tony Stark vs. Elizabeth Bennet -- it's so fascinating. Tony Stark almost always has like a strong light off to the side (rim lighting?) and the light gets harsher as the movie goes on...Elizabeth Bennet is lit very softly most of the time, except for when she's deep in thought, in which case she has an orange light on one side of her face and a blue light on the other...so cool! |
