As some of you may know, I was one of several photographers approached by National Geographic to photograph/document their annual BioBlitz! event earlier this year.

BioBlitz is a 24-hour event in which teams of biologists, scientists, volunteers, and community members join forces to find, identify, and learn about as many local plant and animal species as possible. National Geographic is helping conduct a BioBlitz in a different park each year throughout the decade leading up to the U.S. National Park Service centennial in 2016.

This particular BioBlitz was held in southern California in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Some of my photos ended up on the National Geographic "Meta Lens" site for the National Park Service--thanks, David (of Nat Geo)!

However, it's sort of a weird and round-about method to view some of my National Geographic photos, so bear with me...

1) Go to: //focus.metalens.org/nps/

2) At the top-right portion of the page, click on the "binoculars" icon (it's the second icon from the right) to display the "Advanced Search" window.

3) Click the arrow to the right of the "Keyword" label and choose "Collector".

4) In the blank box to the right, enter my last name: Gainous

5) Click on the "Search and Close" button at the bottom of the window.

6) The text list of images (in a table format) will appear in the top-left section of the browser. As you click on each line in the table, the photo below will update accordingly.

7) With the map on the right side of the browser, you can zoom in, you can change it to a satellite view (Hybrid or Aerial). Simply choose your options from the bottom of that section.

In addition to these photos, I have others that I have posted directly to my Flickr photostream collection.
