I'm a GPS-a-holic. I admit it.
I'm embarrassed to say that in the past week, I have bought three new GPS receivers including a Geomet'r GNC-35 that hooks directly to some Nikon cameras to embed lat/long data in the EXIF. It works great with my D300. The Geomet'r gives me a much easier ability to easily add the geotagged data to my shots, which is a lot easier and less bulky than my old method of hooking up a Garmin 60CSx to it.
Anyway... I'm looking for some decent (free?) software to experiment with in order to display maps, etc., of geotagged images. The Geomet'r came with a program that does this, but it's an incredibly crappy and poorly-written program. In theory it does pretty much what I want -- you point it at a directory of images, and it identifies the geotagged ones and lets you display them on a Google map. But it runs very poorly, stalling out a lot, displaying things awkwardly, etc. It's just not a very good program.
I wanted to see if anyone had any other good options out there. I should also mention that I'm not particularly fond of Picasa, which now supports geotagged images, too.
Anything that will display a map with thumbnail images... or create a Google Earth file, or something along those lines would be really nice. Please bear in mind I'm not looking for programs that will geocode the data into my shots -- I've got that part covered (although some programs may both code the data and then display it nicely... I don't know). Hopefully someone has some experience with this... thanks in advance! |
