They're all going to give us a group shot tonight until Monday. For those interested in astronomy this is a unique event that won't happen again until 2052. You won't need a telescope or even binoculars to see this. I'm going to try to photograph it and I hope some DPCers will try as well. Good luck.

Clouds better go away tonight, grr.

When the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Venus
Then peace will guide the planets
And love will steer the stars

This is the dawning of the age of Aquarius
The age of Aquarius
Aquarius!

Same here. We might get a break on Sat. though. Fingers crossed.

scooter, are you going to try to capture this in camera? (I want to use the term 'on film' but it doesn't fit anymore. lol)
I hope you get something for us to see if others don't get lucky with the weather.

I am definately hoping to capture this scene any of the next few nights. I'll be in upstate PA near the New York State border. We get really nice skies up there when there aren't any clouds. Jupiter and Venus are a very nice duo in the sky these last couple of nights and the moon will join the Maybe Monday but Tuesday and Wed for sure. I am hopeful that there will be clear skies these nights. If I get anything good I'll post it here!

This sounds cool, I wanna try it. Maybe head up to the hills and get out of the lights. Any tips on camera settings so I don't freeze my butt off for some blurry crap? I imagine high ISO would make a lot of noise? And long exposures would have motion blur. Would the f-stop be relevant at that distance? Never really tried star shots before

You'll be shooting 30-45 mins after sunset, in a southwesterly direction. There will still be light in the sky. ISO 100 is fine, exposure maybe 5-10 seconds at f/4.0 I'd guess. You'll want a tripod, of course.

Also hoping to see this but hate to burst your bubble on the planets. :)

Sounds good, thanks. Might try a hdr with foreground mountains as well.

What are you saying? That Slippy got the words wrong or that Mars will be in the group shot?

Slippy switched the planet names for the occasion, me thinks.

Slip, your sense of humour seems to slip by some folks here. eheheh

It looks like I MIGHT have a chance at a shot Saturday, but it looks really bad for Monday.

Does anybody know if the moon will be in it for a Saturday shot??? I'm only interested in heading out for a shot if the moon will be in it.

I want to try a shot across Burlington Bay toward the steel mills in Hamilton. I think that might give a good angle with some decent interest.

Here's where I'm thinking of taking a shot from, at the end of the pier, if the clouds behave and anybody wants to come and mug me for my gear. The red lines show the range of angle I'd be happy with to get the steel mills in the shot.

Yes, it'll be a waxing crescent moon.

Awesome, thank Jac!

The moon will set a little more than an hour after the sun sets on Saturday. You should be able to see the new moon (actually it was yesterday) but it will be a pretty small sliver (waxing crescent). Play with your settings and see what you like best. The objects in the sky will be pretty bright and might appear washed out if you use too long of an exposure. You can try underexposing a little to get some detail in the moon for example.

Here is a pic that I took last winter with the waxing moon and Venus and some other celestial bodies:

And another just a bit later that evening:
