Howdy folks,

As some of you may be aware, I'm managing a hostel in Taupo, NZ. We have the usual facilities for guys coming through- bathrooms, showers, living room w/tv & dvd player, and a fully stocked kitchen.

We have signs in the kitchen saying "please help keep the kitchen tidy by washing your dishes"... however, I don't like this because it's boring and it doesn't work. Possibly because some people don't speak English and possibly because a lot of people are just messy bastards, and at the risk of generalising, the worst offenders are Israelis.

Anyways, can any of you think of a witty saying I can put up instead if the sign we have now? I have an idea that basically goes like this:

"Hey you... yeah you! Clean that up!"

or

"1- prepare it
2- cook it
3- clean it up
4- put it away.

Easy as, bro"

I'm sure there's better out there so I'm opening this up to the mighty collective wit of DPC.

Thanks in advance. The winner gets to see their sign in action!

How about "Your mother isn't here. Please clean up after yourself."

I saw that once in a meeting space and it made me laugh.

That might just work if i remove the 'please', you're too polite, Larry :)

And thing is, people do seem to travel with their mothers quite a lot. This is strange when they ask for a double bed...

"You Cook It ---> You Clean It" ... short and to the point!

How about... Failure to clean up after yourself will result in an extra $$$$ charge for maid service!

this place is a gold mine of creative talent.

Thanks for the suggestions. Thus far i'm enticed by pamelasue's suggestion.

It might just work...

You still need to add "bro" in there is some way, or else it wouldn't be a kiwi sign........

Why not take your step by step instructions:
1- prepare it
2- cook it
3- clean it up
4- put it away.

But replace each step with a picture of someone doing each action and a big number 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 on each photo. Would take a little effort, but it would also mitigate the language barrier.

i could do that... but dont want to trawl through Clipart looking for the correct picture.

SO far I have a nice poster saying

"you COOK it, you CLEAN it.

cheers!"

nice and formal like.

How about a poster without any words: someone washing dishes while someone else is holding a "gun" to his head. To make it funny, use a banana or a colourful plastic toy water pistol.

Comeon Tez, i though you had it down pat

"you COOK it, you CLEAN it.

cheers bro!"

This is bugging my logical mind because in MY world, if I "cook it" I'll EAT it... So I'd prefer some variant of "If you USE it, then CLEAN it, Bro!"
