UPS delivered my 50D yesterday, upgrading from a 20D. My first impressions are very favorable, specifically in terms of image quality and autofocus.
I attended a group dinner last night with several families and was asked to take snapshots to include on a bulletin board at our church... these are iso1600 with room lighting only, auto wb, and no noise reduction.

| I just got my 50D (upgrade from 30D) yesterday as well. Havent had time to do anything with it but charge battery. Hope to get some shutter time with it this weekend. |

Honestly even though several days have passed, I haven't had much time to try it out yet. The LCD screen is much nicer of course, but what I like the most so far is the autofocus. Even in dim light it doesn't hunt but just snaps to the focal point.
The price of these things are still falling like a rock. I paid about $1370 or so with the 28-135 kit lens and now that combo is down to $1314 (under the initial price of the body only... and that's a $400 lens if purchased alone) at Canoga Camera where I usually shop. I bought the kit lens to slap onto my old 20D as a walk-around, by the way. Seemed like too good of a deal to pass up.

All I have done so far is a couple quick snaps in less than ideal light, first very noticeable difference was the sped at which it focused, that alone is worth the upgrade for me since I photo a lot of dog sports. LCD is nice and big as well. Mine came with the latest V1.3 firmware so thats a plus.

A snapshot from this morning at ISO 640 along with a 100% crop. BTW that phone number is defunct... we moved about a month ago, need to get Rocky a new ID tag! |

Darn - I was just about to dial it so my Dog could have a quick word with Rocky !
Meh - he will have to do without and go back to watching his Lassie movies . . |
