Is the much-acclaimed Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 falling from it's high rankings? I find it interesting that nearly a half-dozen of them have come up for sale in the past few weeks, including my own. Is this just a fluke coincidence, or is everyone jumping off the Tamron train all of the sudden?

I found it to be a solid performer and a great general purpose lens. Jack of all trades, but master of none. Which is why I ended up selling mine; I expanded my collection to include more specialized lenses. I guess in essence, I could say that I out grew it, although that might not be entirely fair - perhaps more accurately, my shooting style evolved beyond it. I'm now in a position where I much prefer my Canon 28-135 IS; I find the IS more useful than the faster f-stop of the Tamron, and I like the Canon's extra reach.

What about the rest of you? Are we evolving? Or are we just becoming disillusioned with an older model lens?

Or do I just have too much free time on my hands? ;-)

Must be too cold to get out and shoot, eh? :-)

I love my Tammy ... in fact, since I just got a 50D I gave my XT to my boyfriend ... he wanted the Tammy to live on his camera and there was no way I was parting with it, so I just bought him one for xmas ... now we'll each have one!

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you, I'm trying to get a more specialized lens set.

haha, I'm not smart enough to stay inside when it's cold out - I was out on the Gettysburg battlefield for sunrise this morning, when it was a balmy 26 degrees.

I guess my original conclusion was about right then; people are growing out of the general purpose lenses and into specialized lenses as they progress deeper.

One of the best,
At the moment it is my only lens!! I've sold the garbage that came with my 20D and kept this one only, check my portfolio, all the pictures there are taken with this camera, fast, reliable, little wide, zoom and in low light, it is a winner.
The only downside of it that it is not an L lens :)
Simply love it.

I was actually thinking of getting one of these. A good focal length for all kinds of people photography.

Maybe it's just that I'm too cheap to get the Nikon 24-70.

I think it's a fantastic lens and would keep it if I could afford to keep it as it's a great all-around lens. It's just that I'm in need of the extra reach. I find that if I need available light I almost always grab my 50mm. I guess it's just I need more specialization.

Leo, I've got my hands full with the one I've got ... but if I ever find myself in search of a 2nd one, you'll be at the top of my list!
