Hello,
I'm doing a model shoot tonight and I need some advice. I haven't done a night shoot of people before, so this will be a learning experience. I'll be using my Canon 50D with a 550EX speedlight.
My lens options are either 1) 24-105 f4L IS USM or 2) 70-200 f2.8L IS USM.
I know focusing will be the main issue, since I'll only have street lights illuminating the model.
I'll be shooting in portrait mode and the model will be close to a wall.
How can I get around getting dark shadows from showing up on the wall behind her?
Also, any other tricks would be greatly appreciated!

Learn how to use rear curtain synch with your flash, it may be called second curtain flash. This fires the flash at the end of the exposure and will freeze the action. This will allow you a little longer shutterspeed to let in more ambient light which will diminish the wall shadow. If you have a reflector or diffuser will also help you could bounce the light off of it or through it to diffuse the light. I would use the 70-200 2.8 glass. |
