I have only entered three challenges so far and two out of those three were asked for validations. I would like to send my next one to be validated before the contest starts. Should I send it under the "Help" section where it says to contact the Site Council and if so which one do I use?

Thanks from Agnes

The SC can tell you if your entry is currently valid but you can't have your entry validated before the challenge starts as you could validate it and then upload another version.

You could upload your original and list your editing steps when you submit then you wouldn't need to send it during the challenge.

eta I think you just use DPChallenge - General Inquiry

Oh so the contest has to be underway first? I already submitted it but the contest hasn't started yet. But the last time I listed my steps to and I was still asked for the steps?

I guess it was just a generic email they sent you

You can submit an original along with your entry, but it will not be reviewed until/unless there's a request to validate the image during the voting -- this is mainly a convenience in case you are traveling or otherwise unable to upload during the voting.

To get a review before the voting starts, you have to submit a ticket; you can list your editing steps there and attach an image to upload. Personally, I would create a composite image with the entry on one side and a resized original or the other to make it easy to compare the results of your editing.

Note that this will only represent the informal opinion of one or more SC members as to the legality of your editing -- the actual validation review usually involves more people, and your photo could still be DQ'd if the people who saw it earlier are outvoted. We will usually tell you if it's likely to be OK, questionable, or doubtful; you can take your chances from there ...

Finally, asking "is this editing legal?" during the last few hours leading up to the challenge deadline is less likely to get a useful (or maybe any) response.

You can send us a ticket by using the Contact page if you're concerned about your upcoming entry. The sooner you can send it, the better... if it's a borderline case, it can take us a bit of discussion before we can offer an opinion about whether it's legal.

Do be aware that simply uploading the original ahead of time does NOT mean that it automatically gets "pre-validated." This feature is mainly there for people who may be away during the voting period, or who suspect that the editing may be called into question.

EDITING TO ADD: Yeah, what GeneralE said. He beat my post by 30 seconds ;)

I just had my first Validation Request. I have since added to the details. I revealed my apparent tricky deception for my RED photo Challenge submission.

So, while my photo is under Validation, can people still vote on it just like any other photo?

Ok. Since it wont really matter until the voting starts I might as well wait and see. But I have a sneaking suspicion I am going to get another request. ;O It wont matter though because I did follow the basic editing rules. I just wanted to get it out of the way.

Thanks from Agnes

Yes, and this is a good place to insert another reminder that people are supposed to vote on all images assuming they are legal -- do not vote an image down because you are suspicious of the editing; the validation process will take care of any rules violation.

If, during a challenge, an image receives a request for proof, and is subsequently validated, will the image carry an indication to voters that it has been validated?

They only put the notice there if they (SC) feel it is warranted...ie, the image is getting more than normal validation requests and more than normal low votes due to the suspicious editing/capture. Mind you....that also depends on whether the validation goes through within the normal time frame....of all my validations of late, this hasn't been the case.

hope your scores didnt get punished for it! i know it has been stressed numerous times, but there are still voters who would vote low just because they suspect a rule violation. damn beavers

Yeah they were...but that was not the opinion of SC. But that's a different story.

Thanks for the information! I didn't know the policy.
