I have seen a couple of the "boldies" you describe. I saw one meteor that was near boldie brightness last night on the way home.
Here are a couple of shots of the shuttle/ISS fly-over from this evening. These were shot using a tripod and bulb setting, and just holding the shutter button down by hand. They are all 3 linked in the same thumb.
