Ok, im new on here so hello to all.
My question is I have been approached by a 16 year old who wants to have a few pictures taken for a photo shoot. She says the agencies cost money, hence why she has aked me.
I know its a sensitive issue but I would like to know where I stand in terms of UK law.
I have my own wedsite but they wont appear on it or any website as she is under 18, no topless or nude pics, I wont charge her for the shoot and only myself and her would hold the pictures. They would be mainly fasion shots. Is there a law surrounding this? The photography law is complex these days but people do need protection I agree. |

I could be missing your point (and I'm certainly no expert on UK law), but I'm not sure I understand why you're concerned. Why would it be illegal to take pictures of a fully-clothed 16-year-old? |

I do not know about UK law either, but i would have a model release and make sure her parents sign the release (make sure you see the parents sign) and i would try to have a parent present for the shoot as well. Nothing illegal about shooting someone under age, you just have to have parents consent. |

What the above two posts said. Also, it's good to have someone you know present (acting as assistant or whatever) just to have as an observant, so she or her Mom can't say you tried any 'funny business' with her. |

Thanks for all the advise, I just wanted to claify my position. Never done a phot shoot before so just wanted to get peoples advise. I didnt think it was illagal to photograph a 16 year old, but il get her mum to sign a model release form.
In this day and age you have to cover your own back, over 18's not a problem. |

Agency photographers cost money because they know what they're doing and produce consistent usable results. Is she with an agency and trying to save money? Because if so, that's not a good idea. If it's a case of her not being signed and her trying to get with an agency, then it'd be a good idea for her to look at submission requirements (lot of times it's just polaroids).
