And it also hinted at the fact that more people think aesthetic appeal alone in an image can make it a good one (too early to draw that conclusion based on the small and statistically insignificant inputs yet, but lemme call it a projection:-).

But isn't it the aesthete who says that aesthetics are the death of art?

How much weightage would you give to each of these categories, out of a full 10 marks?

(a) A nicely exposed original picture (without post processing)
(b) Post processing (everything from basic enhancement to layers etc... whichever is allowed)
(c) The subject of the picture (how rare is the subject.. e.g. a pretty bird or woman or a baby or a gorgeous sunset)
(d) Creativity (of theme, lighting, setup, and more)
(e) Aesthetic appeal (subjective attraction factor)

ETA: Lets assume you may use fractional weights too.. like 1.6 etc. as long as they all add up to 10.

The goal here is to hopefully see what people look for in a good picture.

Depends on the photo. If it has a lot to say I couldn't care less about rating (a) through (e). Something about the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. Now if the photo has little to say and pretty much just owes its existence to there being a challenge theme running at the time of capture then those I would rate based on its parts, which would be (e), (d) and then (c). Speaking of which, the examples you give as rare subjects for (c) has me scratching my head.

Edited for clarity.
