If it's a 105 that you are thinking about later, you should have a good look at the 105 Micro Nikkor. I have one of the older 105 f2.8 Ai's and although it is manual focus, and does not meter with my S3 Fuji, it's a delight to use. It is fast enough, and has the very shallow DOF for macro shooting. It is also an outstanding lens at infinity, on par with the other 105 f2.5's that I have. The older Ai's are relatively inexpensive and the glass is just great in some of them. If you are interested, PM me and I will send you a link to a site with good evaluations of many of older Nikon glass, and many of the newer ones.
I paid $450 for the 2.8 M N Ai, but it also included a 105 f2.5 Ai, a 25-50 Nikkor zoom, and a 50-135 Nikkor zoom, all Ai, plus a nice FM film body.
